Practice Description:
I am in business to help those in conflict - especially involving family issues - resolve their problems in a prompt, economical and peaceful way so they can devote their energies to the rest of their lives. I help clients develop legal solutions that avoid the expense and pain of litigation.
If we want peace in our world, we must first make peace in our country, communities and families. My mission is to help clients resolve conflict with a minimum of pain and expense.
Approach to Practice / Form of Mediation:
I take a facilitative approach to mediation and hold these values: 1. With help, the parties to a dispute are best equipped to determine how to resolve their differences. 2. Parties are entitled to self-determination in resolving disputes. 3. Those caught up in conflict get lots of advice but few chances for productive communication. 4. Agreements that parties reach voluntarily are more powerful, durable & effective than those imposed on them. 5. Even in the midst of anger and distrust, mediation can help parties communicate constructively. 6. Family issues are too important to be decided solely by professionals or the law. Families deserve solutions that are tailored to their own unique needs.
Background:
I have devoted over 20 years to helping clients resolve conflict, especially in family matters and labor-employment issues. For the last several years, I have focused on learning and applying the skills of mediation and collaborative law. These approaches offer clients a faster, better, more peaceful and often less expensive way to resolve differences -- especially those involving family members. When people are in conflict, they have less energy and fewer resources available for the rest of their lives. Their families, their workplaces and their communities are all deprived of their full gifts. I help guide clients through the mindfield of their conflicts, so they can get on with the rest of their lives.
